This was a long i just quite fun!

Its about Peter equally he is settling into new jobs when he is attacked past Norman Osborn and his Thunderbolts and he has to contrivance them and also bargain with the drama that brings about Bullseye and others after him. At that place is the Eddie brock story where he becomes the Anti-Venom and its a big one and the best part where he and Spidey team upwardly to take downwardly Norman Osborn who has become Light-green Goblin again, Scorpion Venom meanwhile finding what Oscorp and Harry at large have been doing.

Its a great volume with so many revelations, twists and turns and change the character of Harry and Eddie a lot and I love their team up and Lily with Peter, what she does. Plus Peter put in the heart of it having to fight his archenemies and salvage Aunt May besides at Feast. Its a expert story and lots of moving parts and make fashion for a big fight coming in the time to come for sure.

Slott balances things perfectly and keeps the sense of humour intact equally much as he can and the fine art not the best though.

A really fun Spidey story with some great-looking art by Romita Jr. The story has a classic feel to it, with Peter still working as a photographer, fighting against Venom, Norman Osborn and his team of Thunderbolts, only it likewise has some interesting plot twists and intriguing new characters to mix it up a bit. And it's illustrated by John Romita Jr who is always in height class on Spider-Man.

The consequence with this story that has me cautious to recommend information technology to just anyone is only how steeped in continuity it is, a lot of these elements are years removed at this point. Harry is doing something very different in the year 2021 then he was here equally is Norman and Peter. Readers will know Carlie Cooper only she has a very unlike set of circumstances.

When I first read this I'd been reading effect to consequence continuity wise on Marvel Unlimited from 1999 until hither then I knew all the pieces offhand but at present I'm a few years from that offset reading and read everything after this so readjusting myself to those details took a bit of time, and for a new reader it'd be jarring in some of these details, similar for example the scorpion is venom at this point in time.

Though despite this all the elements for a classic Spider story are all still in identify. He's downward on his luck, pursued past authority forces, identity is secret, and the bad guys get multiple one ups because of Spider-Mans own screw ups. All very centered and enjoyable from folio to page.

It all works very well if you let it.

5 stars.

I just realized I associate comic book time the same manner most old folks associate existent-fourth dimension. Like the Reagan years of the Truman years. But I'll talk about the stint of a specific artist or writer. "Ah, boy, those were the proficient sometime days, nosotros had McFarlane and Michelinie in there doing a blindside-up chore." And they were. McFarlane was a damn practiced man to put on the spider-books. Stylistically it was the perfect fit. I read Spider-Homo all through his run and into the 'Maximum Carnage' and 'Separation Anxiety' storylines. And fifty-fifty though every crossover that came after McFarlane left the spider-books, I read them. Until they regained their hokiness and became intolerable.

Damn this team for cartoon on my nostalgia and bringing back the symbiotes and Eddie Brock. But damn them for doing a terrific job and making information technology something I want to read instead of feeling like I just have to read it to be up to par.

Characters: Non a lot of evolution for Peter this arc but Slott picking upward the Osbornes and doing his own affair is familiar simply besides very well written. Some villain reveals are very obvious especially the Goblin wannabe at the moment but it's skillful. Slott also writes skillful Spidey dialog so I similar that besides.

The New Ways To Die story by Slott and JRJr is really solid Spidey tale-telling. With great, classic art, lots of quipping, a picayune intrigue, and lots of A- and B-lost villains to keep Spidey busy.

Norman Osborn (Greenish Goblin) is head of the grouping known equally the Thunderbolts, a group of villains that accept somewhat reformed and are fighting offense. One of the members of the Thunderbolts, Max Gargan, was formerly known as the Scorpion, 1 of Spidey'due south enemies, now takes the mantle of Venom, and to become even cooler Gargan in his Scorpion adapt takes on Venom. You have to know symbiotes to know how absurd this is. Spider-human is the hated criminal, at least hated by Osborn, and is constantly trying defame the Spideman.

While the Venom symbiote latches on to every jail cell of its host, when information technology originally bonded with Eddie Brock it gave him cancer. While battling cancer Brock'south white blood cells/anti-bodies fight off the symbiotes lingering effects they combine with the symbiote remnants to create the killer of all symbiotes, Anti-Venom.

It'south great to get the comics in ane story arc instead of having to await calendar month to month. That is why you lot'll catch me always checking out these merchandise paperbacks and graphic novels.

Office of the problem here is--well, I suppose I should support a picayune. This is a story arc from the "new" ongoing Spider-Man series, which I gave up on not long later information technology started. Why did I give up? Well, information technology wasn't necessarily the changes they made from the previous, and highly successful, J. Michael Straczynski storyline, which ended with (I don't think this is much of a spoiler, at this point) Mephisto altering Spider-Man's life such that the revelation of his secret identity during the Civil War was undone, and Aunt May survived the bullet meant for Peter, but at the cost of losing his wedlock to Mary Jane Watson. Equally I say, these changes were adequately desperate, but I rolled with them.

No, the reason I jumped off the boat was considering the new writing staff decided, for whatever reason, that Spider-Man needed a whole slew of new villains. For me, that seems highly implausible. Equally information technology is, Spider-Human being has, literally, dozens of villains already out there, chewing the scenery.

I should also add together that, equally a Spider-Man reader, I was actually out for over a decade--I skipped the whole Clone Saga, and Venom, and Carnage, and so forth. Indeed, Straczynski was the but reason I came back in the first identify. However, the plethora of new villains in "Brand New Day" (following "One More than Twenty-four hour period," the concluding JMS story) had me thinking information technology was time for me to bond again.

But, equally someone who visits the comic racks from time to time, I couldn't assistance simply notice John Romita, Jr.'south return for this particular arc, which and then sold out on the stands, and I figured, well, I'll but wait for the trade.

At present, again, I'm not the globe's biggest Venom fan, and it took me a while to sort out some of the second-string players in this book, but . . .

I guess my indicate here is that: Spider-Human iii, equally a motion picture, was disappointing because it indulged in as well many villains and non enough story, and the terminal thing I was expecting was the comic book version of it, and yet, here it is.

In that location's also the small problem of the larger ongoing continuity that this story takes identify in--obviously in that location's a mayoral race, competing newspapers (the Bugle is no more, I'g sad to tell you), and Norman Osborn, who most anybody knows is the Green Goblin, is now a hero thanks to the climactic battle of Hole-and-corner Invasion (which, as it happens, I did follow while information technology was coming out, a couple of summers agone, or was it only last summer? I'grand having a hard time keeping track). I say "problem" considering, clearly, the thought here in this book is to become you to pick up the other Spider-Human being books, and and then back into the regular comic.

I bought this, past the way, yesterday, on Gratuitous Comic Book Day, from my local comic store, which was having a sale. Then I didn't pay full retail, which . . . well, thank God, is all I can say.

Peter Parker is having his usual trouble balancing his superhero and civilian lives. Things won't get any easier when the Thunderbolts come after him and bring Venom dorsum into his life...

I hadn't read Spider-Man or principal Marvel crossover's in years, but am aware of the high points and know the general points of the "Make New Day" reboot. So I came into this beingness aware of the Thunderbolts line-up and leader, who Venom's host is, Peter's current troubles and new foes, etc, but without also much item. New Ways to Dice is fairly attainable, with Slott and Waid doing a good chore of explaining things simply enough equally they become without slowing down the action.

There are several layers to the events here and I liked the blending of erstwhile foes and new faces. There are some pacing bug and the arc has a chip of a "what can we practice to elevation that" feel equally information technology goes on. I like the twists in general but after a few they start to lose impact. On the whole I'll take information technology though, equally I'd rather the comic be a petty besides clever for information technology's own skilful than dumbed down.

The effects of "Brand New Day" and Spider-Man rebooted continuity, whether you're a fan or not, add some confusing plot issues. For instance - everyone's retentiveness of Spider-Man's identity has been wiped... including the Venom symbiote. Yep, Parker withal was in one case the symbiote's host, and the symbiote (and electric current host) recollect that Spider-Man was a host, just don't know who the person under the mask is. I'thou aware of the purpose of this full general dominion and what they are trying to accomplish, only the in-continuity retentiveness stupidity really sticks out and breaks the story's narrative. This volition be less of a trouble if you have read everything related to "One More Day" and "Make New Day" and liked it.

I'g not personally a big fan of Romita Jr'due south art (I find it very striking or miss and don't intendance for the mode), only information technology's as expected so fans should enjoy. Granov'south piece of work on Waid's ten folio Eddie Brock story was stunning.

It's amusing to see Bullseye trying to prove he can impale Spider-Human by hand earlier smart-bullets exercise, commenting on how no one does practiced work with by the sweat of their ain brow anymore. Leave it to Bullseye to exist the Luddite of the group, resisting the threats of technological modify with a psychotic spin.

We are introduced to an Anti-Venom, whose abilities and mindset seem to exist at least initially religiously based. That takes balls to put a graphic symbol like that out at that place. (Some of the few times they even tried it before were with guys like Aquarius and his flowing robes...it failed miserably if not hysterically). Anti-Venom wants to use his conflicting touch to cure you lot, even if he cannot empathise that it might 'cure' Spider-Man's abilities abroad completely. Adept stuff.

Some of the things left unresolved here involve the Asian guy who happens to have a panic room in a homeless shelter and retreats to if often whenever he speaks with a mysterious tone (literally, his eyes turn purple-y and glowy and he speaks with unearthly purple lettering). The Menace character is new to me, and apparently she'southward a girlfriend of young Osborn and her introduction to super-villainy occurred simply considering she knocked over a vial of chemicals that turned her into a super-villain in her boyfriend'south father's Greenish Goblin man cave. Both of these are weak from the get-go, and they just get weaker when they are resolved in later story arcs. Garbage in, garbage out.

John Romita, Jr'south art is, as expected, wonderful. He can evidence you lot real people, real emotion, real settings, and over-the-top characters too, just similar he'south been doing for the last 35 years. Go go JR JR!

I found this to be a solid storyline and 1 of the more than enjoyable mainstream graphic novel reads in the past few years.

I usually gravitate more towards the cartoony style, but in "Fifth Stage," the photo-realistic style is fitting. I think information technology's what really delivers the "reality" of Eddie'south situation, how he'southward dealing with his cancer and fighting what'south left of Venom. Since I'm not a big reader, this was something NEW and a side of Eddie Brock that didn't fifty-fifty come to heed; how tortured he must have felt. I idea the level of emotion captured in Eddie's journey was delivered perfectly; the pacing worked for me. I liked the concept of anti-Venom, I thought that was a very clever.

And then of class, there'south Norman Osborn, crazy and menacing equally ever. I like how Harry'south like "you're wearing the mask again, aren't yous?" and his father is like "don't tell me I'm on flick telephone?", something about that is just funny to me, like, darn that crazy coot Norman is at it again!

You know what'due south evil? how Norman tortures the Freak.

Deny a human the ability to get high is a new low, when volition the madness end!! *shake fist*

I love how there's a dandy remainder of emotion, drama, activity and one-act, that's the formula to an enjoyable Spidey-comic and this was an enjoyable read.

Yet I liked the interaction betwixt Goblin and Menace and seeing that Harry is still a total headcase even in this new retcon universe (even though he is clearly not running around equally Menace, this seems to exist his one-half black girlfriend with blond hair who is also a whore who hits on Peter, but I'grand not sure why she would put her dad in the hospital or why menace seems like a man then). There was a certain level of 70s goofiness/Stan Lee at his worst in the first few arcs that has smoothed out with the kraven's girl arc and now this ane. Likewise, e'er refreshing to have Johnny R. Jr. doing the Spidey art, information technology's where he is meant to be. NOT looking forward to the upcoming Flash Thompson arc. Side note: why do Venom and Anti-Venom look increasingly like the aliens in Alien Ressurection (with arms style to long for their human host torso). ...more

Spider-Man, the many Goblins, and two Venoms meet each other a bunch of times. There's a bunch of large, palatable fights, and layers of "Brand New Day" continuity thrown into a story of Norman Osborn coming back to New York Metropolis to kill Spider-Man. It all progresses okay, but there'southward a disconnect in trying to merge the recently constructed "Brand New Solar day" Spider-Man with the decades-quondam, ofttimes remodeled Goblin and Venom rogues. Dan Slott doesn't really have much to say near either family of Spider-Man, the many Goblins, and two Venoms run into each other a bunch of times. Warren Ellis, on the other paw, crafted bold, somewhat wild and unnecessary visions of Osborn and Venom in Thunderbolts that seem to be the standard characterization in other Curiosity books. Consistency isn't the end goal of comics, but this book isn't doing annihilation to stand out from old Spidey stories. ...more than

I really enjoyed this graphic novel.

This is well-nigh Spider-Human trying to exist a hero to the people of his urban center when he gets labelled a villian instead. Now he has to effigy out what to do to get people into thinking he's on the good side while figuring out who is saying he is a bad guy while still protecting them from the bad guys.

It was a practiced story and I was always wondering how Peter was going to deal with all that was going on. Doing information technology while trying to deal with the bad guys while being labelled

I really enjoyed this graphic novel.

This is about Spider-Human trying to exist a hero to the people of his city when he gets labelled a villian instead. Now he has to figure out what to do to go people into thinking he's on the expert side while figuring out who is proverb he is a bad guy while all the same protecting them from the bad guys.

It was a good story and I was always wondering how Peter was going to deal with all that was going on. Doing it while trying to deal with the bad guys while being labelled as one. It was interesting to see him trying to stay alive as he deals with everything. He however makes funny comments while he is doing all the things.

The characters in this book were good and really fun to read. Information technology was interesting to see how the enemies of Spider-Man were going to pull of making people retrieve that he is a menence to the city. For the virtually part it looked like they were going to become away with it simply Peter knows what to do and make it fun to read.

Overall I actually liked this story and had fun reading it.

I decided to go back in time to read some of the Spider-Human story arcs I accept missed. This 1 is ane of the best then far-with the writing of Dan Slott, the fine art work of John Romita Jr./Klaus Jonson and a wonderful cast of characters. It takes place during the short menstruation of fourth dimension, when black-hearted Norman Osborn was the public hero(see the Underground Invasion arc) and had the backing of the federal government to become later on our beloved Spider-Human being. Then Peter has to bargain with Osborn, a number of new villains, plus a lot of old(Bullseye, Venom, etc) being tagged as a series killer, low on coin(nothing new I acknowledge), a mayor'southward race and because of stupid decision by the editors(yes after all these years I still detest it!), without MJ, he is in big problem.
Lots of action, a mystery or two and a few good jokes, makes this collection worth reading.

This is the kind of story I've been waiting to read! Since I started reading everything Brand New 24-hour interval and on, I've been disappointed. I can see what the writers have been trying to do, but information technology hasn't been working. Thankfully, Dan Slott goes all out and proves to be one of the better writers on this book.

This is the kind of story I've been waiting to read! Since I started reading everything Brand New Day and on, I've been disappointed. I tin can run into what the writers have been trying to do, merely it hasn't been working. Thankfully, Dan Slott goes all out and proves to be ane of the better writers on this book.
It helps that nosotros go some recognizable villains this time, instead of new creations that don't concur a candle to Spider-Man'due south classic rogues gallery. Eddie Brock gets a new identity, Venom has a bad mean solar day, and Spider-Human fends off the entire Thunderbolts team. Dandy stuff and entertaining until the end. It was also great to see Norman Osborn in costume over again.
This whole volume was fun and I hope to read more similar it.

Collects Astonishing Spider-Man issues #568-573

This wasn't an amazing story, but information technology was definitely good. This book of Spider-Man made me realize that I can option upwards a Spider-Man book from virtually any era of his ongoing story and enjoy it.

This collection featured the debut of the character Anti-Venom. It too featured a team of government "heroes" who are actually reformed villains. They are an iteration of the Thunderbolts that I am unfamiliar with, and for some reason Norman Osborn is their leader

They are an iteration of the Thunderbolts that I am unfamiliar with, and for some reason Norman Osborn is their leader (and again, he is a government employee, only I'm not sure how this all came to be).

With Spider-Man existence a doubtable in some murders, the Osborn and the Thunderbolts have the authority to effort and bring him in: dead or live.
